Set camera directly from plan - MiniMap view

A floor plan of your space appears instantly, and you drag or pick on it to set your position and view direction, and the camera jumps right to it.

While SketchUp lacks near-clipping or multi-viewport support, MiniMap bridges that gap by generating a live 2D floor-cut that lets you pick positions and directions directly from the plan - just like a minimap in a game.

No more struggling to orbit in narrow rooms or fight hidden faces: one click in the plan view moves the camera straight into the desired space.

The MiniMap overlay delivers a fresh, game-like sense of multi-viewport experience right inside SketchUp.

Scene Overview Integration

MiniMap now shows all your Scenes directly on the map, giving you a quick, visual overview of your 3D views on the current level. It helps you see where each scene is located and understand your project layout at a glance.

Key Features

  • Plan-based camera control: Drag on the mini map to move and orient the camera instantly.
  • Automatic 2D cut view: MiniMap creates a clean section through your model and lets you adjust the cut height with the scroll wheel or arrow keys.
  • Always-on mini map: A small, persistent plan showing your current camera position and direction.
  • Zone Editor: Focus on specific areas by defining zones for navigation and section views.
  • Simple, intuitive UI: Fresh, lightweight, and easy to use.

Usage

Move the camera to a spot you like, roughly at the height you want to view from.

Then start MiniMap - a map of your space appears, and you simply pick your standing point and viewing direction.

  • Open Tools > Curic > MiniMap or click the toolbar icon.
  • Drag on the plan to set your eye position and view direction, then release to jump to that camera instantly.
  • Scroll or press ↑/↓ to change the cut-plane height, or type an exact value in the VCB.

💡 Usage Tips

  • Set the right cut height: Move your current camera to a position with the desired eye height, and MiniMap uses the camera’s current eye level to accurately place its cut plane.
  • Use existing Section Planes: If your model already contains horizontal section planes, MiniMap can read them to create default Levels for quick navigation.

Tip: Give your section planes clear names and symbols. This helps MiniMap organize and display them more effectively, making management easier.

  • Focus on specific areas: Create a Zone to limit the active map area - every time you open MiniMap, the plan will focus directly on that region.
  • Optimize your MiniMap view: For a smoother experience, activate MiniMap, adjust your Style and Tags Stage (hide high-poly objects), and use a simple flat style. Once you’ve got the look and speed you want, right-click and choose “Save View” to store these settings. Next time you switch plans, MiniMap will instantly restore your optimized display for faster performance.
